The ecology of the swallow

Starting life of the Swallows
         The starting of bird's nest comes from the swallow nest, this species of swallow able take nest to eat. Normally, will found nest in large caves on high wall. It’s build a lot of nest because of its behavior like to stay in group, live together, have a sensitivity to smell and sound, they like to build a nest in the same place.

Life cycle and reproduction
        The nature of the swallows will be together in group. In breeding season will be matched,and so amazing, it has monogamy and stay forever with its couple. In which it begins to live with couple when 8 months of age. For new birds couple will search for a build permanent nest about 30-40 days at night. Bird’s mother will lay 2 eggs at a time, and then when the young birds born, they will find food for the baby 2 times a day, until about 49-52 days, the birds begin to have full feathers and learned to fly, until 8 months of age will separate to find couple. According to 1 year life cycle. The average reproduction is 3 times 4 months further.

Bird’s nest harvest period
There are 3 periods for bird’s nest harvesting as follows;

  • Period 1: End of January - beginning of February, which this harvesting will get the best quality bird nest.
  • Period 2: Mid of March, after that give them build nest and lay eggs.
  • Period 3: In July is the period of ecosystems conservation for bird population increasing, give mother bird to lay eggs until baby bird grow up and ready to leave the nest to fly with the parents. When have no bird inside nest, we will harvest bird's nest.

After 3 periods, these birds will fly back again for build their nest in December of every year at the same place. So, this method keeps sustainability and population of swallow grows rapidly.

         Thus, bird’s nest harvesting do not swallow’s ecosystems destroy because the bird’s nest concession company should have knowledge of swallow’s ecosystems conservation, although we will harvest it for business but should attend ecosystems and curve surrounding following standard period.
